Principal Clarinet at Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
Teacher at CODARTS (University of Arts Rotterdam)

Bruno Bonansea

Bruno Bonansea studied in Paris with Richard Vieille and Franck Amet, and then at the prestigious National Music Conservatory of Lyon, with professors Jacques Di Donato, Nicolas Baldeyrou, and Robert Bianciotto.

Since 2016 Bruno is solo clarinettist at the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, (under the supervision of Yannick Nezet-Seguin and then Lahav Shani). He previously occupied the same position at the Orchestre National de France under Daniele Gatti’s supervision (2013-2016) and at the Orchestre de Picardie (2011-213). He is also regularly invited to play with other orchestras, such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

Bruno Bonansea’s activities are not limited to the classical repertoire alone. He defends contemporary music and work with composers like Bruno Mantovani, Bernard Cavanna, Michael Jarrell, Guillaume Connesson, Daniel D’Adamo, Pascal Dusapin... His energy and open mind always lead him to consider jazz, traditional, modern or improvised music.

He founded the duo Klezrem’x with double-bass player Jéremy Bruyère, regularly plays with the Syrian oud player Jaber Fayad, is a member of the Free Spirit ensemble with Ibrahim Maalouf, and regularly takes part in diverse original projects, which testify to his desire to explore the richness of all types of music.

In 2016, he initiated the first "Echappées Musicales du Médoc", as artistic director. This young festival’s vocation is to renew the traditional concert frame, by combining different artistic expression forms. The festival shows Bruno’s enthusiasm in wanting to break down the barriers of musical genres.

Bruno gives master classes in France and abroad and is currently professor at CODARTS (Rotterdam International University of arts).
